about

most families have struggled with alcoholism at some point, i used an actual fire at at bourbon factory (that resulted in a fish kill) as an metaphor for my own families struggles

lyrics

In Kentucky there’s a fire, it burns the home of so much bourbon
It will soon be ablaze; four alarm, maybe five
I fool a pyre that’s below, with that same Kentucky bourbon
It slides casually down my throat, like a pickerel down a stream

And I want to know, what’s wrong with you
Cause everyone can tell what you feel like when you’re turning on yourself

As the fire rages on, the bourbon seeps into the river
And it suffocates the fish, who dry like martyrs on the rocks
A drink to champion the words, that flap and sputter like a bluebird
Oh with whiskey on its wings and fish blood in its beak

And I want to know, what’s wrong with you
Cause everyone can tell what you feel like when you’re turning on yourself
And I want to know, what’s wrong with you
Cause everyone can tell what you smell like when you’re turning on the shelf

The river smells of sour mash, rotting fish and cane molasses
An apt reminder of the stench that stains the barroom where I sit
I like my passion in a jar; I like my love at two fingers
I like my blood on the rocks, I like my misery when it lingers

And I want to know, what’s wrong with you
Cause everyone can tell what you feel like when you’re turning on yourself
And I want to know, what’s wrong with you
Cause everyone can tell what you smell like when you’re turning on the shelf
On the shelf…

about

Coby Carlucci Beverly, Massachusetts

I have been performing in and around New England for 20 years. I describe my sound as Rugged Pop and have been likened to Elvis Costello fronting ZZ Top (or perhaps Nick Lowe fronting Humble Pie). I have three CD’s to my credit (so far!!) the most recent, Dragline, will be available in September. Cheers! CC. ... more
